Job Description

iMap Centre is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Children’s Support Worker to provide high-quality care and support to children and young people with complex needs and Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The successful candidate will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that promotes each child’s development, independence, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care and support to children with complex physical, emotional, and behavioural needs
  • Support children with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including autism, learning disabilities, and communication difficulties
  • Assist in the delivery of individual care plans, behaviour support plans, and educational activities
  • Promote independence, social skills, and emotional wellbeing
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment at all times
  • Support children with personal care where required (e.g. feeding, toileting, mobility)
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, and multidisciplinary professionals
  • Accurately record observations, progress, and incidents in line with organisational policies
  • Maintain safeguarding and child protection standards at all times

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with children or young people with complex needs and/or SEN
  • A caring, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends if required

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant qualification in Health & Social Care, Childcare, or equivalent
  • Experience supporting children with autism, sensory needs, or behavioural challenges
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support strategies
  • First Aid or safeguarding training
