Personal Assistant / Support Worker (Ref 008602)
Job Description
Location: Epsom
Pay: £13.85 per hour
Hours: 4 hours per week (Saturday mornings during term time and then flexible during holidays.
We are looking for a caring and patient Personal Assistant to support Rory, a young person who is autistic and non-verbal. Rory requires 1:1 support at home and, over time, in the community. Initially, I would like for someone to assist me getting Rory walking – he often refuses and so I have to use the buggy which he fixates upon. I would like someone to accompany me with him out walking and using this time to build up a bond with my Rory.
Rory is doubly incontinent and not yet toilet trained, so the role will involve personal care. He communicates through hand-led cues, which you will learn to recognise with consistency and time. Rory needs someone calm and understanding, but also playful – he enjoys singing and having fun with those around him. Rory loves to laugh and his giggle is infectious.
At first, support will take place with mum and at home while Rory builds a bond with his PA, before gradually moving on to trips out. Rory often uses a specialist buggy for safety, as he sometimes refuses to walk. A car can be provided if needed to transport the buggy.
What we are looking for:
- Patience, persistence, and a calm approach
- Willingness to be playful and engaging
- Ability to support with personal care
- Commitment to building a long-term bond with Rory
There are no pets in the home.
If you are patient, caring, and enjoy bringing fun into everyday life, we would love to hear from you. Please apply if you believe you are the right person to support Rory and help him enjoy new experiences.
